The agency was established in the year 2018. The Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS) was passed into law by the 7th Assembly of Osun State House of Assembly under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Najeem Sallam on the 30th of October, 2018 and assented to by the then governor Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola.
OHIS has over 150,000 enrollees. This is excluding the 111,698 enrollees on the social register that are still being validated across the state. Benefitiaries of the scheme includes individuals and families from various works of life such as civil servants, members of the organised private sector, students enrolled under The Student Health Insurance Programme (T-SHIP), and the vulnerable.
OHIS is currently in partnership with up to 432 health facilities across Osun State. The list of healthcare facilities is comprising of 332 focal primary healthcare facilities, 17 public healthcare facilites inclusive of University of Osun Teaching Hospital formally known as LAUTECH, and 82 accredited private healthcare facilities.
The Government of Osun state is prioritizing providing predictable
financing and risk protection for the residents of the state, so as to
reduce out of pocket payment and improve access to quality healthcare
services.
As part of strategies for attaining Universal Health Coverage in the
state, the Osun state Health Insurance Scheme was conceived and
designed to provide solidarity between the sick and the healthy, rich
and poor, employed and unemployed, young and the aged.
Established by the Osun Health Insurance Scheme Law, the Osun state
Health Insurance Agency will provide leadership for the implementation
of the scheme. Other relevant stakeholders will play vital roles in
ensuring the goals of the Scheme are achieved.
